| Profemur L

The Profemur-L prosthetic system has been
designed with the aim of combining flexibility of the modular
neck with the features of a "press-fit" stem
completely coated with hydroxyapatite. This special shape
with a double progressive taper of the metaphyseal portion
prevents possible risk of sinking, while the rectangular cross-section
of the stem increases resistance to torsion.
The medial curve resting on the calcar and
perfect filling of the proximal femur ensures the primary
stability of the implant. The stem has a macrostructure on
the proximal portion, with horizontal cutting flutes, whilst
the distal parts have vertical cutting flutes which guarantee
excellent long-term mechanical anchorage. The hydroxyapatite
reabsorbs to provide a stimulus for trabecular bone to form,
which will then anchor to the roughened surface of the implant.
Another feature of this stem is that the collar is located
medially in the metaphyseal region and has dimensions proportional
to that of the implant, with a ratio that optimizes the "off-set".
The Modular Neck
The Profemur-L hip prosthesis can also be
used with the vast range of modular
necks designed by Cremascoli (now Wright) in 1985 and
have a strong history of mechanical and clinical evidence.
The modular necks therefore have undoubted advantages because
of the multiple corections obtainable in terms of length,
varus-valgus and anti-version/retroversion. The extra-medullary
versatility allows the implant to adapt to the given anatomy,
ensuring the best possible position and correct articulation.
The Profemur-L stem is available in 11 sizes
related to one another in such a way as to offer adaptability
for mort patients and a high degree of individuality.
The material
Made of Titanium alloy (Ti6AI4V), surface
treated by micro-porous sandblasting with corundum (Ra = 6micron)
and coated with hydroxyapatite to favour rapid bone integration.
The Instrumentation
To be able to position this prosthetic implant
with great precision, complete and easy to use instrumentation
has been developed, suitable to meet all requirements. On
request, the system can be provided with an adaptor for the
pneumatic mallet, which allows rapid, easy preparation of
the endomedullary canal.
